Program Description
Lango offers immersion-based French, Mandarin Chinese and Spanish classes to children ages 18 months to 13 years, including daycare and elementary school-based programs. Our dynamic teachers use our proprietary curriculum, which combines storytelling, music, movement, art and dramatic play, to teach kids to understand – and ultimately speak – new languages. Our native-speaking and bilingual teachers lead kids through adventure-filled lessons, backed by materials (workbooks, flashcards and music) that are customized for Lango’s instructional purposes.
Topics Covered/Curriculum, Frequency, Duration and Other Program Details
Lango classes are divided into 8 seasonal, thematically-based sessions, covering two calendar years; curriculum may be adjusted for use during the school year only. Seasonal sessions are ten weeks long, with each week encompassing an introductory 45-minute lesson, as well as an extension lesson to accommodate students who attend twice per week. Classes are modular, so that components may be taken out or added to accommodate your school’s schedule.
Each session and each class is outcome-driven; teachers follow clearly laid-out lesson plans to enable students to progress towards those outcomes. Outcomes include practical and thematic vocabulary and forms of expression, as well as cultural knowledge; thus, kids in Lango classes learn to understand and articulate everyday language and a variety of expressions related to the “adventures” portrayed in our curriculum while appropriating a body of cultural information Lessons include a variety of activities communication, culture, connections, and comparisons.
Assessment & Milestones
We train our teachers to assess students’ comprehension throughout each session and to tailor instruction accordingly. Additionally, students complete worksheets at home, sharing these worksheets with their parents and teachers as evidence of progress.
This program is available as part of the current school curriculum or as an after-school program.
